Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Certification Student Course (NHTSA Course)

This training course will certify the attendee in the most current NHTSA approved SFST training curriculum. This is the same NHTSA SFST training course that law enforcement officers are trained in nationwide and testify to in court. The course is open to any student who wants to learn more about the NHTSA approved standardized field sobriety testing and it's foundation.

This course will train the legal professional in: Perspectives on recognizing driving behavior exhibited by impaired drivers; Attitudes and skills in detecting the impaired driver; Understanding the tasks and decisions involved in identifying the intoxicated driver; The DWI detection process (vehicle in motion, personal contact, pre-arrest screening); Effects of DWI enforcement; DWI enforcement and the three standardized field sobriety tests (Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk and Turn, and One Leg Stand); Typical clues of alcohol intoxication; Divided attention testing and the NHTSA standardized field sobriety testing administrative and scoring protocols; SFST validation studies; Live alcohol workshop and demonstrations of different types of nystagmus will be displayed and observed.

 Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Instructor Certification Course (NHTSA Course)

This is an intense training seminar with a four day (40 hour) classroom instruction and practical application. During this training the student will be trained to
effectively administer and instruct the SFST practitioner training course curriculum. The course will address applied basic adult learning theory
and instructional techniques necessary in order to deliver the SFST concepts and principals to your trial jury. The seminar will center around demonstration of teaching
techniques through a series of instructional lead activities by the student's including trial application and techniques. Evaluation of the student's performance in making effective presentations will be
assessed in the classroom portion of the seminar. Coverage and instruction of the entire SFST practitioner course curriculum will be
conducted throughout the length of the course. This seminar will qualify the successful student as an instructor of the NHTSA/IACP approved
standardized field sobriety testing practitioner certification course. The course is open only to person's who have successfully completed the NHTSA approved SFST practitioner course.

 Drug Evaluation and Classification Overview Course (DRE)

This training seminar is an overview of the key evaluation principles found in the NHTSA Drug Evaluation and Classification Program (DECP-DRE) curriculum that
law enforcement officers are trained in nationwide and testify to in court. This unique training course will inform the attendee in the most current NHTSA/IACP approved DRE procedures and training curriculum/protocols as well as case planning techniques from a medical and scientific point of view.  The course will feature Dr. Fran Gengo of Buffalo, New York and Justin J. McShane, Esq. of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania who will discuss medical and scientific components of the protocol.

This training seminar will train the legal professional in: Development and effectiveness of the drug recognition process; Overview of physiology of drugs; The drug
evaluation and classification procedures (12 step process); Drug evaluation eye examinations (HGN, VGN, lack of convergence, estimation of pupil size,
pupil reaction to light); Vital sign examinations (pulse rates, blood pressure, and body temperature); Seven drug categories; Drug combinations; Analysis
of the drug evaluation narrative report and the drug influence evaluation face sheet; and proper use of the drug evaluation matrix to form drug category classification.
Attendees will receive a copy of the most recent NHTSA DECP course pre-school and long course manuals along with a CD-Rom filled with DECP studies, case law, and "face sheet" examples.

Advanced Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Course/Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Update

(NHTSA Course)

This training seminar is a unique one of a kind intensive 3.5 day classroom instruction and practical application seminar. During this training the student will be trained to
effectively and thoroughly evaluate a DWI/DUI alcohol case and prepare for trial. The course will consist of the 8 hour NHTSA SFST Update course to refresh the students knowledge, skills and attitude in reference to the DWI detection process.  The students will be supplied with an actual DWI/DUI alcohol case to evaluate during the course.  The student will be required to present an opening and closing as well as cross examination in relation to the case.

This training seminar will train the legal professional in: Review and update skills in the SFST's; Technical case analysis (video and paperwork review); Case preparation, presentation and trial tactics; Direct and cross examination techniques; and exercises to develop trial skills. Credit will be given for the new NHTSA approved SFST refresher training and for the advanced trial tactics aspects of the course.

Cost - SFST Update plus Advanced course - $1695.00 per person.

Cost - Advanced course only - $1395.00

Course includes NHTSA SFST Refreher manual and CD containing all NHTSA SFST student and current SFSTInstructor manual and all NHTSA SFST validation studies and other alcohol related material.  Lunch is included as well as a social gathering at Bubba's home.

This one day 8 hour refresher training program is designed to enable participants to refresh their knowledge of the NHTSA DWI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) procedures.  The course includes the recognition and interpretation of DWI violations, the administration and interpretation of standardized field sobriety tests and how to describe the evidence obtained in the "totality of the circumstances" clearly and convincingly.  The students will receive the latest NHTSA SFST Update course student manual and a CD containing SFST Validation studies.

 Advanced Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Course

This advanced training seminar is designed for those who wish to refresh and improve their knowledge and skills regarding the standardized field sobriety tests
(SFST's) and other drugs that impair. In addition to refreshing SFST knowledge and skills, the student will participate in developing the impaired driving case from
videotape and paperwork analysis interpretation. Application of direct and cross examination techniques are also developed through mock trial settings. The course
is open only to person's who have successfully completed a NHTSA approved SFST practitioner course.

 Intoxilyzer 5000 Overview & NHTSA Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Refresher Training

This specialized training seminar has been designed for those who aspire to understand how to develop a solid case through a foundational analysis
and understanding of how the Intoxilyzer 5000 breath testing machine operates. This training seminar provides hands on interaction/application with the Intoxilyzer 5000 breath testing machine giving each student an opportunity to work with the internal and external components of the machine. Students also have the opportunity to conduct testing on alcohol dosed individuals in a live workshop environment. Limitations of the Intoxilyzer 5000 will be explored along with other critical issues confronting breath alcohol testing. This training seminar will train the legal professional in: Instrument calibration; Simulators; Temperature; Slope detection; Air flow pressure; Infrared spectroscopy; Breath alcohol thresholds; and machine maintenance logs.

The second portion of this training seminar is designed to refresh and improve the student's knowledge regarding the standardized field sobriety tests (SFST's). Separate credit will be given for the NHTSA approved SFST refresher training and for the Intoxilyzer 5000 overview training aspects of the course.
